Authorities in Italy are investigating a mafia clan accused of trafficking nuclear waste and trying to make plutonium.The ‘Ndrangheta mafia, which gained notoriety in August for its blood feud killings of six men in Germany, is alleged to have made illegal shipments of radioactive waste to Somalia, as well as seeking the “clandestine production” of other nuclear material. BRUSSELS, Oct 9 (Reuters) – The European Union called on Ethiopia on Tuesday to ensure that civilians in its troubled Ogaden region are protected and receive humanitarian aid.
U.N. investigators touring the impoverished, predominantly ethnic Somali region — where Ethiopian soldiers have been fighting separatist rebels for months — urged Ethiopia last month to ensure food and aid agencies can get in the region. Read the rest of this entry »
