A few months ago, an important development took place in the Somali North, namely the area that spans in the east of Somaliland and in the west of Puntland.

On July 1, at a ceremony that took place in the city of Badhan, representatives from the predominant Warsangali and Darod Somalis met and declared the autonomy of the State of Maakhir. Somalia Violence Kills Nearly 6,000 in
MOGADISHU, Somalia: Violence in Somalia’s war-ravaged capital has killed 5,960 civilians this year, the country’s oldest human rights group said Sunday.

Sudan Ali Ahmed, chairman of Elman Human Rights, also said 7,980 people were wounded and more than 700,000 displaced from their homes as the country’s government has struggled to contain a bloody Islamic insurgency. Ethiopian troops in Mogadishu

The Ethiopians are not popular in Somalia

Ethiopian-backed Somali government forces have launched an offensive against insurgents after simultaneous attacks in the capital, Mogadishu. At least six Ethiopian bases in the city were targeted on Tuesday night by Islamists. Three civilians have died. 

Correspondents say rocket-propelled grenades, hand grenades and machine guns were used in the attacks.
